Evre: The Indian startup encouraging uptake of electric vehicles by developing charging solutions

Gasoline or diesel-powered cars are known pollutants and emitters of greenhouse gases, making the automobile industry a target for reform as countries seek to achieve net zero goals. Electric vehicles have been a popular alternative for those looking to decrease their carbon footprint, and in 2022, 14% of all new cars being sold globally were electric, increasing from 9% in 2021 and less than 5% in 2020.
The growth of India’s EV industry is an area of public priority, with a government goal of increasing the number of EVs to 80 million by 2030, corresponding to an increase in the proportion of EV sales to “30% in private cars, 70% in commercial vehicles, 40% in buses, and 80% in two-wheelers and three-wheelers.” Uptake of electric vehicles is increasing in India, with sales having seen a 49.25% increase in 2023. The availability of charging stations is crucial to meet demand and encourage individuals to switch to this environmentally-friendly transportation solution. India currently has 5,234 charging stations accommodating an approximate 135 EVs, and an EV Charging Infrastructure Market valued at US$913 million in 2023. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has set a goal of introducing 46,397 stations in 9 cities by 2030 as the market continues to grow.
Evre seeks to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by developing charging solutions that can be quickly and widely implemented across major cities in India. The company provides businesses and real estate owners with four solutions that they can acquire for use by their customers and residents, varying largely by type and size of vehicle that can be accommodated. Evre also positions their products as a vehicle through which governments can meet their sustainability goals. In 2022, Evre installed the district of East Delhi’s first EV charger within a residential compound. The inauguration of the charging station was attended by Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, who celebrated the installation and commented on its importance as the Delhi Government seeks to increase the uptake of electric vehicles. One of Evre’s solutions, the Itellipole, uses solar power to both power a street light and provide EV charging capabilities, accommodating up to three EVs at a time.
Evre has so far commissioned over 550 charging stations, and is working on a pipeline of over 10,000 more. As part of its expansion plans, Evre is partnering with other organizations, such as real estate developer Signature Global to install Evre chargers on its properties, and is seeking franchise partners. By using innovative technologies to eliminate barriers to the adoption of environmentally friendly solutions, startups such as Evre are driving forward the achievement of global climate goals.
