Saudi Thakaa Med: AI-powered medical treatment increases accuracy and efficiency

Industries across the board are negotiating powerful transformations due to the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into their day-to-day operations. In the healthcare sector, AI is emerging as a powerful resource, facilitating early detection and accurate diagnosis, supporting medical professionals with data-driven decision-making, enhancing training, and providing resources to patients, among other uses. In Saudi Arabia, the integration of AI into the healthcare sector is a Vision 2030 goal being pursued under the Saudi Health Sector Transformation Program. By 2030, AI is forecasted to “unlock US$15 to US$27 billion in economic value for the Kingdom’s medical sector” by automating 40% of healthcare tasks to increase efficiency.
The transformation was particularly accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which remote care platforms were launched. In the private sector, HealthTech startups are further expanding AI integration. Founded in 2022, Thakaa Med mobilizes doctors and engineers to develop AI models with the aim of enhancing patient care and streamlining patient processes. This is done through enhancing the accuracy of diagnoses, predicting future health complications, and personalizing treatments. The company’s AI suite includes support for doctors, patients, and clinics. For example, its flagship product, Dental IQ, uses AI to support doctors in making accurate diagnoses, reporting dental information to patients, tailoring a treatment plan for each patient, and using predictive analysis for prevention and proactive health planning. At a broader scale, Clinic IQ uses AI to facilitate administrative functions such as automating reminders and messages, enhancing scheduling, and the analysis of financial data to unlock revenue opportunities. Thakaa Med is rolling out its products in clinics across the MENA region and recently launched Serenity Dental Clinic in the UAE in July 2024.
Thakaa Med is partnering with organizations such as the Egyptian Maxillofacial Radiology Alliance to introduce AI in healthcare to border audiences, including medical professionals and researchers. Thakaa Med has also made its products accessible to MENA-region dental professionals online; in a partnership with HealthTech company Toothpick, dental patients can use Dental AI tools on the Toothpick website to analyze x-rays and generate oral health reports. In September 2024, Thakaa Med raised seed funding from the Falak Angels syndicate to support the further development of its AI models and to launch its products Dental IQ and Chest IQ. Thakaa Med was itself an alum of Falak Angels, an investment enabler that provides support and capital to innovative startups across the Middle East region. As the startup continues to grow, it is developing essential innovations that are helping Saudi Arabia and the broader region achieve AI transformation goals.
